What can we expect from a wedding in Sardinia?
A wedding in Sardinia is not the same as a wedding in mainland Italy. Sardinia has a strong distinct identity, which is reflected in many aspects of day to day life. Here are some particulars to consider, the marriage ceremony will be in Italian, partially translated into English, not vice versa. Guests can avail of a mass booklet in English and Italian.
The meal is usually traditional Sardinian, as it is what they know how to do best. The menu can be adapted slightly to meet tastes. Hotels and restaurants will not provide a UK or Irish style menu. Here is a typical wedding menu, starting with the antipasti, a dazzling array of local cheese, salami, seafood and pickles, enjoyed standing or seated. The first ‘plate’ follows a little later, one or two first courses of homemade Sardinian Pasta served with a light condiment. Once that is comfortably finished the second ‘plate’ is served, usually fresh local seafood or open fire spit roasted piglet, or both. The wine, produced locally, is served cool due to the warm evening temperature. Finally the cake arrives, a light sponge combined with fresh local fruit and whipped cream served with liquors and coffee. As you can see neither quality nor quantity are amiss. If you like your meat and two veg you may be disappointed, but not for long!
The weather is hotter and more constant than many other locations in Italy, outdoor evening wedding receptions are delightful, with summer temperatures of 25 degrees and above after sunset.
