History, Cuisine, Crafts and Climate
Sardinia is an Italian island in the middle of the Mediterranean sea which is characterised by fine white gold sandy beaches, crystal clear warm waters and tall forested rocky mountains. Besides natural beauty, Sardinia is also home to many wonderful archaeological sites. The most common are the Prehistoric Nuraghi, once inhabited by ancient people, they are round stone dwellings numbered in their thousands which can be seen scattered around the island. In later times the Romans, the Phoenicians from Greece and the Moors from Morocco (to name a few) all settled here, leaving behind a great heritage for visitors to appreciate.
Our cooking uses simple home grown ingredients and is rich in flavour. Many traditional dishes can be tasted all over the island, fish and seafood are common around the coast. Inland dishes reflect the farming culture where a wide selection of red meat is enjoyed, the most famous being Porceddu, wood fire spit roasted piglet. Cheese lovers adore Pecorino made from sheep’s milk. We must not forget Culurgionis and Malloreddus local hand made pasta, which form the basis of most meals. Freshness and purity are hallmarks of Sardinian cuisine and it doesn’t cost a king’s ransom!
Sardinia is the home of an immense range of quality wines, thanks to the diversity of the soil and climatic variations. Some Sardinian wines have been exported abroad with great success. So if you haven’t had the pleasure of tasting Sardinian wine, you’ll most definitely be pleasantly surprised. The island has a thriving cottage industry which continues today, producing hand woven baskets and rugs, cork wood ornaments, Filigrana gold thread rings and necklaces, and local red coral jewellery. Visitors can watch craftsmen create their wares in little workshops throughout the towns and villages.
Thanks to its position the climate is very mild in winter and has especially long warm sunny summers. For this reason Sardinia is a perfect wedding location all year round. This natural paradise is only a 2 to 3 hour flight away from most European cities. Weddings in Sardinia are especially recommended to couples who enjoy relaxing and indulging in all mother nature has to offer.
Our hospitality awaits you.
